40 Days Story - Lots of food to give away this Saturday!

December 19, 2007 (posted by Dan)

It’s heating up again! We just got word tonight that lots of food … 4 or 5 van loads … are ready for us to pick up at the grocery store chain that we’re working with in Bethesda and DC! Lots of lives will be touched by God’s love this Saturday! There are many families in need of just basic food in our community that we can help. We thank God that He has made this connection possible for us to help so many!

40 Days Story - It’s better to give than receive

December 18, 2007 (posted by Dan)

The fifth life purpose in the 40 Days of Community series is worship. Worship is more than just singing. It’s offering our whole lives to God every day. It’s freely allowing God to work in our lives. Worship also involves giving our time, talent and resources.

Just the other day, a couple was sharing in one of our groups about their own financial struggles. But, they wanted to stay committed to giving a set amount of their income back to God. This week, the husband got his year bonus and it was exactly what they needed to take care of some financial obligations with a little extra! God loves to surprise us as we trust Him!

40 Days Story - People are more open than you think

Part of the 40 Days of Community is reaching out to our neighbors and sharing God’s love in practical ways like service. It also means that we want to share the good news of God’s love for them too. One of the fun things that some of us have been doing is just going out in the community and connecting with people about Christ, the church or whatever. People are open to spiritual things and Christ. We went into one local salon and gave out some invite cards to the manager there. She was so grateful and excited that she started giving the cards out to people in the waiting area!

40 Days Story - Getting ready for another outreach

We stopped by the apartment complex that we have built a relationship with. And, the staff is so excited that we are coming back again this Saturday to give away some food to those in need. It’s been a great relationship! And, it’s our hope and prayer that we can do even more than give away food. We believe that God is calling us as a church to love people in practical ways.

Think big!

There are about 120,000 people within a 5-mile radius of the Germantown Regal Theater! That’s a lot of people. And, most don’t bother with church. Most are far from God. One thing that this 40 Days has done is to expand our vision for what God wants to do to reach people by using us.
