We’re overloaded with thoughts, books, theories and formulas on what it means to grow spiritually. How do we make sense out of it all? How do we get back to simplicity and what matters most? The one question that I think we need to answer is how did Jesus do it? How did he stay fresh and vibrant and spiritually full of life?
Jesus mastered the principle of living a balanced life. He learned to balance being and doing, work and rest, serving and reflecting, being in relationship with others but also being alone with God.
Just 50 years ago, the average American slept 8 hours now 6 ½ hours. We’re neglecting rest. But, we need rest, solitude and time to reflect if we want to live balanced, healthy spiritual lives. God created us to have rhythm … six days of work, one day of rest. When we violate that rhythm and don’t make space for rest, we get out of whack and life can become a chore - trying to catch up all of the time.
