WIRED for a Purpose

June 29, 2008 (posted by Dan)

If we stop and take some time to reflect about spiritual things, sooner or later a question that may come up is … Why did God put me here on this planet for this time? Or, did God create me for whatever or is this something more to it? God wants us to have lives that matter. He wants us to live intentionally - on purpose.

WIRED to Make a Unique Contribution

June 25, 2008 (posted by Dan)

When we use our fame, fortune, power and success primarily for good things like positive causes, helping people, caring for people or doing what’s right for people who work for us or with us, that’s living out how God WIRED us.

Living out how God has WIRED us means that we have the potential to make a unique and worthwhile contribution to God’s work in the world. You can do that in just about any kind of role: a stay-at-home-mom, a teacher, an accountant, a waitress, a computer specialist - whatever role.

Fame, fortune and power are not the focus. Making a contribution to our world is how we should measure success and significance.

What’s WIRED?

June 19, 2008 (posted by Dan)

My prayer is that this series would help us as a church go to the next level to love people in our community. The only way that we’re going to be ready to do that is to love each other right here in our midst. What does that mean that God has uniquely wired you? WIRED is an acrostic.

Working Spiritual Gifts

What am I gifted to do? Spiritual gifts are special abilities given by God to followers of Christ for serving people. Some of the working spiritual gifts are having mercy, encouraging others, leading people and teaching the truths of Bible.

1 Peter 4 [10] Based on the gift they have received, everyone should use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.

Individual Style

Where does my personality best suit me to serve? God has made you in a very unique way … you are not an accident. God uses all kinds of personalities … there’s a place for your individual style to serve and make a difference in a church community.

Isaiah 44 [2] This is what the LORD says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid.

Real Talent and Natural Abilities
What natural talents and skills do I have that God wants to use?

There are different abilities to perform service… 1 Corinthians 12:6

Experience

How does my life story impact my journey with God and others? Our life experiences growing up, within our families, in college, at work … are not just a bunch of random incidences. They are ordained by God to shape and prepare us for a unique life of serving and caring for others.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:3-4

Desire

God-given passion that compels me to an impact somewhere.

What do I love to do? Snap fingers … do anything … not fail … what would you do?

For it is God who works in you, inspiring both the will and the deed, for his own chosen purposes. Philippians 2:13

Uniquely WIRED by God

June 15, 2008 (posted by Dan)

Sometimes it feels like there has to be something more than what we’re doing and experiencing. When we grasp how God has uniquely wired us, we can discover what He made us to do for Him while we’re here on earth.

I think it will take us to a whole new level spiritually and relationally as a church. Where does it begin? It begins with all of us believing that God has put us here in this time and place to do something for him that may even be beyond what you could imagine.

Narnia: Journey Back to Faith - Part 3 (Against All Odds)

June 10, 2008 (posted by Dan)

In Narnia (Prince Caspian), against all odds, the Pevensies, Prince Caspian and the Old Narnians defeated the army of King Miraz and his Telmarines. They didn’t do it on their own. Aslan, a talking lion who was a figure of Christ in the movie, was right there by their side. With his help, they defeated their enemies.

Just like Aslan, Jesus also had gathered together an ordinary bunch of followers they he called disciples. And, just like the Narnians – the disciples faced insurmountable odds. As Jesus left the earth, they faced many battles as they spread their new found faith all over the known world.

How could they accomplish this mission of making sure that the message of Jesus was spread throughout the world? Then, on top of that, how would they accomplish their mission and also avoid battling with each other? The the disciples were human too. Just like us, they struggled with pride, competitiveness, arrogance and selfishness.

Jesus had some things to say to them in a scene of his final hours here on earth. The scene is his last meal with the disciples in an upper room in Jerusalem. What could he say to them that would help them in the battles that were coming?

In John 13:34-35, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

As the disciples let the love of Jesus sink into their inner being and let it saturate their soul in such a way that they experienced it every moment - especially in the midst of the battles that were coming, they could respond with love.
